Take Thoughts Captive
Ungodly thoughts are going to come to your mind. God never told us that they wouldn’t. In fact, the Bible says that WHEN THEY DO COME, we are to lift up our shield of faith to thwart off the fiery darts of the enemy (Ephesians 6:16). And elsewhere, we are commanded to cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). See, it’s not always that you want to think ungodly thoughts, but sometimes these thoughts have a tendency to just exalt themselves.
But when these ungodly thoughts do come, are you meditating on the thought? Fantasizing about the thought? Agreeing with the thought? Desiring to act out on the thought? Or are you ignoring the thought, casting the thought down, rebuking the thought, and bringing the thought under subjection to the obedience of Christ?
Being tempted with a bad thought isn’t a sin. It’s how you respond to the thought that could possibly lead to sin. Remember, the thought is simply a fiery dart of the enemy that he’s planting in your ear, but the thought is not your own. The thought isn’t yours unless you receive it.
