Meet Jesus
By Lover of Words
Meet Jesus! WOW! This statement in itself is somewhat obscure. I mean, Jesus lived over 2000 years ago and His legacy is still going strong. We have presidents who are not as famous nor as desirable, yet we will never meet them. So, when you hear that you can have an actual relationship with Jesus –it sounds a bit far fetched. We have all heard about the miracles that Jesus performed. If you are at least 5 years of age, you have heard about Christmas. The man has a birthday that people not only remember and celebrate, but actually give their best gifts. Seriously, Jesus fed 5000 people with 2 fish and five loaves of bread. He turned water into wine. He raised people from the dead. In fact, His existence was such a phenomenon –His name was God with Us.
I have met some people in my life and we hung out a little bit. These individuals did not experience much wisdom from me nor did I really gain anything from them. So it is apparent that I am not very good company. My conversation is that of a shallow thrill seeker and at best, I may make you laugh. You might enjoy my taste for fine dining or maybe my choice of movies. However, I am not a person that you would miss Michael Jackson to hook up with. So in actuality, why would I think I could meet a world changer like Jesus? In fact, why does anyone make knowing Jesus seem so… well easy? You don’t believe this do you? Well, neither do I.
Even though I don’t believe that meeting Jesus is easy, I do believe that it is possible. Jesus is God. How do I know this? Well, He was killed by people who knew He was God. He was sought after and watched during His ministry. Jesus was tested by some of the most profound Bible Scholars. All this is truth but the reason why I believe He is God is simple. He told me! Not to mention, the chief haters knew He said He would be raised from the dead. When they saw that stone rolled away and His body gone… don’t think for a minute that they didn’t search, harass, persecute, and maybe even torture those who were closest to Him.
I mean, John the Baptist was beheaded. Steven was stoned to death. Peter, I hear was crucified upside down. When the writers of the Bible wrote that Jesus was seen by more than 500 people after He arose from the dead –those people were still alive. The magistrates, officers, and judges could have laid hands on them personally. But the most obvious truth is, they never found His body. They never could produce a cadaver. If Jesus had not risen from the dead in bodily form, those who killed Him would have shown His body and destroyed Christianity for good. Oh, don’t think His disciples could have stopped them.
They had not done this task during Jesus entire ministry. Jesus was killed and His body was buried but when they went to that tomb… it was empty. They know it, His disciples know it, the 500+ witnesses know it. Hey, You and I know it too. Why? We have read how they persecuted and tortured Jesus during His human stay on this earth. It would behoove you to know that the biggest victory Jesus accomplished was defeating death and rising from the dead. Trust me, His persecutors would have not allowed you to know that Jesus rose from the dead if they could have hidden it.
Do you see where I am going with this? Jesus is who He said He was. Why? They didn’t disprove it. Believe me, they would have if they could have. But they couldn’t so now they down play it. Now, they make you doubt whether He ever existed. I have heard many folk tales in my life but I have never seen a folk tale celebrated by the entire world. I mean, a group of people may say some things and laugh amongst themselves but I mean CHRISTMAS. I don’t think so –no man is that famous. Now, Let me introduce you to my Friend. This is a informal introduction so you don’t have to get all dressed up and be on your best behavior. Come meet my Brother just as you are. He doesn’t care if you are smoking a cigarette, cleaning a toilet, dancing on a pole, living in a box, or passing laws on Capitol Hill. He just wants you to believe in your heart that He is for real. If you can do that then you have met the qualifications.
Oh no, you don’t have to wake up every morning and pray for 2 hours before you can meet Him. You don’t have to join the praise and worship team at church. Tithing is not a prerequisite to meet Him. Nor do you have to speak in tongues or be baptized. Don’t let those religious folks place you in bondage. Like I said, this is an informal meeting. You will find that people rarely set an appointment to meet God. Zacchaeus, a short man, climbed into a sycamore fig tree so that he could see Jesus when He passed by. When Jesus reached the tree, he look up and called Zacchaeus by name, and asked him to come down. He then told him he was going to visit his house and dine with him.
The woman with the issue of blood, who had a need, met Jesus by pushing her way through a crowd. When she touched him, power came to her and she was healed. Jesus didn’t even know he was meeting her. He turned around and said, “Who touched me?” His disciples were like, the people are thronging you all around. What do you mean who touched you? Jesus said, I felt virtue leave from me. Nicodemus meeting with Jesus was so informal that he came at night so he wouldn’t be seen. But when Nicodemus meet Jesus, his whole theology was brought to nothing and he learned the first lesson of how to enter the kingdom of God. The woman at the well, who was very promiscuous, met Jesus and wanted to debate about where to worship God.
Their meeting was so informal that she mistook Him for a misguided Jew who wanted a drink of water. However, Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The gift of God is the Holy Spirit. This gift comes into the heart of every believer who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior. What am I telling you today? I am telling you that if you want to meet Jesus all you have to do is wait for Him, seek after Him, desire answers of Him, or simply have a spiritual need.
Matthew 5:8 says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” A pure heart is a heart of faith. If you believe that Jesus died for your sins and was raised from the dead… you can meet Him. You can meet the famous miracle worker. You can meet the forgiver of sins. You can meet the Prince of Peace. You can meet God Almighty. I believe your heart is pure, so I am going to introduce you to Him. Father, I have someone who wants to meet you. Do you have a word for them? In a still small voice He said, “COME UNTO ME, YE THAT LABOR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST. TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU, AND LEARN OF ME; FOR I AM MEEK AND LOWLY IN HEART: AND YE SHALL FIND REST UNTO YOUR SOULS. FOR MY YOKE IS EASY, AND MY BURDEN IS LIGHT.” NICE TO MEET YOU!
In 1999 the children of a lady I was friends with saw that I had a necklace with Jesus on the Cross. Curious, they asked me about the necklace. I told Christopher, then 11, Kayla then 4 and Jamie who was 6 yrs 8 months about Jesus sacrifice on the Cross, for us explaining if they asked Jesus into their hearts & lives they would go to heaven versus hell when they died. Christpher admonished me for cussing whenI mentioned hell. I explained to the kids that there is a place called hell meant for satan and his Angels; and God did not intend for man to be in hell which is why Jesus died on the Cross. It took some doing but the kids finally understood that there is a place called hell.
I lead Christopher to Jesus using the prayer of Salvation I had heard on TV. AS I was leading Christopher to Jesus I could hear angels playing a harp. When I said amen I looked up and saw Jesus smiling at me. Since the kids had not been in church, I also lead Jamie to Jesus
However I wasn’t sure if Kayla understood what I said. She proved me wrong. Shortly after this Kayla would say God is bigger than the bank, God is bigger than the sky, God is bigger than mommy, God is bigger than Daddy God is bigger than Aunt Janna etc.
Wow! Awesome Testimony, Janna!
Some great points in the post. I think there is a definite need to keep spreading the gospel. Meeting the Messiah I think can be summed up in his words he said If we love him we should keep his commandments and then he will give us the Holy Spirit to teach us all things. John 14:15
Amen
Amen!
Amen brother,
Thank you for that. When the Holy Spirit allows us to hear the call, why does man seem to think there is a test you have to pass to validate it? We know that His feelings on that are John 3:16. He’s got the whole world in His hands. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God! Amen. Evidently I was supposed to find your site today. I just read your article on sex drives. Spot on! Very edifying. I ask for your prayers on that. Thank you!
Regards and Blessings
