When God Says No

What do you do when God says NO? A few years ago, I met a beautiful man. He lived His life completely surrendered to Jesus. He was involved in church & serving. He was a professional football player – Tall, handsome, humble & looking for a Godly Christian wife to start his life with.

It’s like every prayer that I have ever prayed for in a husband was moulded into a man and standing right infront of me. I remember saying to God, “I WANT HIM” I pleaded “Please Lord, honor me with this man! I have been so faithful to you, please bless me with him!” And God responded, “No Jessica.” I said “What?” And again, He responded, “Jessica, I said no.”

I battled with that answer for 1 year. It completely consumed me and nearly destroyed me. Why? Because I didn’t know to deal with Gods “no” in obedience. I grew extremely bitter and felt like God looked at me like I was second best, like I wasn’t worthy of something GREAT.

But as much as it tortured me emotionally, The Lord revealed that he was another woman’s future husband, not mine, and that He has someone else for me. Gods “No” was not a rejection, but actually a redirection. We NEED to accept when Gods says No in obedience, because if not, it is the perfect gateway for the enemy to manipulate our minds against Gods character.

The devil’s most favorite plot is to have us question the character of God. In 2 Corinthians, it tells us that Paul cries out & pleads with Jesus, “Please Jesus! Remove this thorn from my side!” But Jesus says No – “My Grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Jesus was showing Paul that His GRACE had kept him going until now, and that His grace will CONTINUE to keep him going.

Sisters, The Lord may say No, but He reminds us, “I’ve given you grace for this. I may not give you that, but you have GRACE!” The Lord is not expecting us to understand His ways, but He is expecting us to trust Him. How are you going to respond when you feel like the rug and been pulled from under your feet? TRUST in the character of God and recognize who HE is. John 10:10 – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
