Know Him For Yourself

By Lady S.

My father used to tell me stories of what it was like growing up in his country. A wave of excitement always lit up his face as he reminisced and talked about the warm sun, white sand, fresh fruit, and clean water. But it wasn’t until I took a trip and experienced this amazing island for myself did I understand his excitement and what he meant all along. I was able to know for myself rather than having to live vicariously through him and only wonder what it was like. There is nothing like experiencing something or someone for yourself. More specifically, there is nothing like experiencing God for yourself.

When you experience God in any capacity no one can take that from you. While it’s great to hear others talk of all that God has done for them, having your own personal encounter is priceless. It reminds and reassures you that yes, there is a God and he is ever so real.

A few years ago when I was attending college, there was something specific that I needed. It wasn’t general so that it would have been coincidental for me to get it. This thing was as specific as me asking for mint striped aqua shoes with bells on it. I was denied by campus authorities so I made a request to God (it had nothing to do with money), and sure enough He came through! I thought to myself, what are the odds? But no matter how big or small, God always shows himself able.

Knowing God for yourself consists of having a personal relationship with Him. It’s like when you hear things about someone, but have come to know them personally, it opens up a greater connection. I’ve known God to be a Healer, a Comforter, a Provider, a Friend, and the list goes on. I encourage you to seek to know Him beyond what the preacher preaches on Sunday. We don’t just want to know about Him, we want to know Him. I promise you, it makes all the difference in the world.

So readers, I’ve shared my encounter with the King. What about yours?

  1. My sister, you have really blessed me by reminding me of the AWESOMENESS of having a personal relationship with Jesus! You have also giving us a clear picture of believing and being called by His name. To know His name is to experience Him!
