Windows of the Soul

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” -Matthew 6:22-23, NKJV

One day I asked God to make this Scripture as plain for me as possible. Then He reminded me of the adage, “The eyes are the windows of the soul.” Immediately He showed me a house with a lot of windows…

“Do you see the windows of the house? If the windows are dirty how will anyone see inside or out? They can’t because a dirty window blocks the view. No matter how beautiful the house may be on the inside, no one will be able to see it. No matter how beautiful the outside is, the person on the inside of the house won’t be able to see it. Why? Because the windows are dirty.”

As children of God, we must keep our windows clean. If the window is good [clean], the house [body] will be full of light. But is the window is bad [dirty], the house [body] will be full of darkness. We are not called to darkness but to light. Therefore it is imperative that we keep our eyes [windows] good. We do this by guarding our hearts against all evil, submitting ourselves to God daily, and making a personal commitment to spend time with God daily too – through worship, prayer, reading our Bibles and obedience.

God intends for all of His children to live in Light, the Light of Jesus Christ. But that takes effort on our end. Just as one would clean windows on their house, we also needs to cleanse ourselves daily through holiness. It’s the only way to let the light in and also be a light to others.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” –Matthew 5:16, NKJV
