By Lover of Words

Do you recall the story of the man from the country of the Gaderenes, which is next to Galilee, who was tormented by the legion of devils and wore no clothes? This man didn’t stay in a home but lived amongst the TOMBS.

This man was bound with chains and fetters and was in so much pain he would cut himself and no man could come near him. “When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, [thou] Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.”

Jesus cast out the Legion of demons into a herd of swine and they went and drowned themselves in the sea. Next, the people who fed the swine went and told the people in the city what happened. “Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.” They asked Jesus to depart from their coast.” (Luke 8:26-39)

Revelation:

The man was being tormented by past memories. Satan and his devils love to remind us of the past hurts, failures, and disappointments that we experienced in our life. The greek word that tombs was translated from is mnema{mnay’-mah} and it means, a memorial to perpetuate the memory of a person, place, or thing. If you recall in the verses, the devils names were Legion because they were many.

Satan brings all of the memories that we need to crucify into our minds daily thru dreams and conscience. The man was living amongst the past memories(tombs) and that is like dying where God has delivered you from. The chains and fetters represent being spiritually bound by the root of bitterness that grows up in us if we don’t forgive ourselves or people that hurt us.

I know this to be true because I have personally suffered from this. Living amongst bad memories(spiritual tombs) can really make a child of God unfruitful. We must forgive our enemies/ourselves and overcome evil with good. Jesus Christ is the only one who can deliver us from these demons. If we submit ourselves and stay at his feet(meaning staying in the Word of God) we will be clothed and in our right minds(meaning be filled with the Holy Spirit).

Lastly, the people of the city wanted Jesus to leave because many of them had evil spirits and it is very uncomfortable for darkness to be in the mist of Light. Take note, when God does a miracle for you always go and tell people what good things the Lord has done for you. Jesus told the man “Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee”. May the Holy Spirit give you a ear to hear! Amen.
